Thermal Properties of Matter
Rails gap in summer, water resists warming, and woollens slow the cold. Chapter 10, Thermal Properties of Matter, of the NCERT Physics textbook for Class 11 explains these observations. You will study temperature scales, thermal expansion of solids, liquids and gases, and calorimetry with specific and latent heats. Conduction, convection and radiation carry heat onward, with black body ideas, Wien's displacement relation and Newton's law of cooling describing how hot bodies lose heat to their surroundings.
