Surface Areas and Volumes
Packing a gift box, painting a pipe and filling a hemispherical bowl all ask how much surface or space a solid needs. Chapter 11, Surface Areas and Volumes, of the NCERT Mathematics textbook for Class 9 develops the formulae for the cube, cuboid, cylinder, cone, sphere and hemisphere. You will compute lateral and total surface areas as well as volumes, convert between units, and solve problems on tins, tanks and solid toys. Each formula is applied to objects you can picture and measure.
