Number Systems
Between any two rational numbers there are numbers that no fraction can capture. Chapter 1, Number Systems, of the NCERT Mathematics textbook for Class 9 extends rationals to real numbers through irrationals like the square root of two and pi. You will locate irrationals on the number line, recall how the decimal expansions of rationals and irrationals differ, and practise adding, subtracting, multiplying and rationalising denominators. The chapter completes the number line into a continuum on which all of later mathematics can stand.
