The Story of Village Palampur
Palampur is a fictional yet typical Indian village used to explain how production is organised in rural India. This chapter of the NCERT Class 9 Economics textbook, Chapter 1, describes its fixed farmland, family and hired labour, and capital such as tools, seeds, fertilisers and irrigation. It traces the move to multiple cropping and high yielding varieties, shows how harvests and surpluses are used, and surveys non farm work including dairy farming, small shopkeeping, transport and repair services that support incomes and employment.
