The French Revolution
In 1789 France overthrew a king and proclaimed liberty, equality and fraternity. Chapter 1 of the NCERT Class 9 History textbook, India and the Contemporary World Part One, explains the crisis of estates, taxes and bread, the storming of the Bastille, the Declaration of the Rights of Man, the Jacobin republic, Robespierre's Terror, and Napoleon's rise.
