India - Size and Location
India anchors South Asia between the Himalayas and the Indian Ocean. Chapter 1 of the NCERT Class 9 Geography textbook, Contemporary India Part One, locates the country from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh, giving its latitudinal and longitudinal extent, the Tropic of Cancer's passage, and area of about 3.28 million square kilometres. It explains the Standard Meridian of 82 degrees 30 minutes east, neighbours on land and sea, and why this central position shaped trade and strategy.
