Electoral Politics
Elections decide who rules in a democracy. Chapter 3 of the NCERT Class 9 Civics textbook, Democratic Politics Part One, follows India's journey from voter rolls and nominations to campaigning, polling, counting and results. It explains first-past-the-post constituencies, reserved seats, party symbols, the Election Commission's role, the model code of conduct, and what makes elections free and fair. Turnout figures, rigging checks and citizen participation show why each vote shapes representation and accountability.
