Drainage System
NCERT India Physical Environment, Class 11, Chapter 3 maps rivers that drain the subcontinent into the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. It contrasts Himalayan rivers, fed by snow and rain through deep gorges, with peninsular rivers gliding over rocky plateaus in shallow valleys. The Ganga, Indus, Brahmaputra, Godavari, Krishna, Mahanadi, Narmada, and Tapi appear with tributaries, basins, and deltas. The chapter links rainfall, slope, and geology to floods, fertile plains, and the need for wise sharing and conservation of river water.
