Timeline and Sources of History
Chapter 4 of the Class 6 NCERT social science textbook, Exploring Society: India and Beyond, shows how historians turn scattered clues into the story of the past. Learners practise reading timelines with BCE and CE, measure centuries and millennia, and sort sources into archaeological, literary and oral types. The chapter examines inscriptions, coins, manuscripts and monuments, explains dating and context, and invites learners to collect family and local sources and arrange them into history themselves.
