Regional Aspirations
India's unity has constantly been tested by movements rooted in language, region, and identity, which is the theme of NCERT Politics in India Since Independence, Chapter 7. The chapter begins with Jammu and Kashmir's special status and the politics of autonomy, moves through the Punjab crisis and the Anandpur Sahib Resolution to Operation Blue Star, examines the Assam movement against outsiders and the Assam Accord, and closes with the Dravidian movement, the creation of new states, and how accommodation of regional demands has deepened democracy.
