The Age of Reorganisation
After the great early empires declined, many new kingdoms rose across India between roughly the seventh and twelfth centuries. This chapter of the NCERT Class 7 Social Science textbook surveys that age of reorganisation: the Gurjara-Pratiharas, Rashtrakutas and Palas in the north, the Pallavas and Cholas in the south, and smaller regional powers. It explains how kings legitimised rule through land grants, temples and court culture, how administration and trade were rebuilt, and how regional languages, art and devotion took new forms that still shape India.
