How Land Became Sacred
This chapter of the Class 7 NCERT social science textbook, Exploring Society: India and Beyond, explores why rivers, hills, groves and cities became sacred across faiths. Learners visit pilgrim centres, forest shrines and riverbanks, and hear the stories, songs and rituals that honour them. The chapter shows how reverence for land shaped customs of conservation, from protected groves to water harvesting, and how shared sacred spaces taught different communities to respect one another's beliefs.
