The World of Metals and Non-metals
Chapter 4 of the Class 7 NCERT Science textbook sorts familiar materials into metals and non-metals and asks what sets them apart. Learners test lustre, hardness, malleability, ductility and the conduction of heat and electricity, and compare how each group reacts with oxygen and water. Iron, copper and aluminium illustrate strength and usefulness, while sulphur and carbon show the contrasting nature of non-metals. Everyday uses, from utensils to wires, make the distinction concrete, and the chapter closes with the harm of rusting and the care metals need.
